A Hub of Hope

The B.E. Smith Family Center is more than a place—it is a community of possibility, connection and growth. Home to both the Britain Development early-intervention program and the Early Learning inclusive education program, the Center brings together children with developmental delays and their typically developing peers in one integrated environment.

One story that truly reflects this mission is that of the Antrim Million family. Their son, Griffin, was born with Down syndrome and a congenital heart defect and later diagnosed with infantile spasms, a form of epilepsy. From newborn to NICU, through loss of developmental milestones, to rediscovering joy, the family’s journey shows how meaningful support matters.

Through therapies—physical, occupational, feeding, music, aquatic—and caring support, Griffin began taking steps, using communication devices, and returned to the laughter and life every parent hopes for. Because supporters like you make this possible, no family is turned away because they cannot pay, and every child is given the opportunity to thrive.

Fund-a-Need — Because Impact Matters

At this year’s live Fund-a-Need moment, we focused on the “Nourish & Flourish” initiative at the B.E. Smith Family Center. Many children served by the Center have unique medical, developmental and dietary needs that require specialized care and nutrition. With your support we will:

Expand our kitchen facilities: upgrade design, infrastructure, equipment, menus, and staffing.
Introduce pediatric dietitian services: providing specialized nutrition support for healthy growth.
Increase access to a developmental pediatrician: expanding hours for Dr. Katie Burns, who cares for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, pre-term birth and complex medical needs.
Enhance outcomes for children and families: giving expert guidance on feeding, growth, and overall health so every child can flourish.

While the event has passed, your impact doesn’t have to stop. You can still support the “Nourish & Flourish” initiative today and help ensure children at the B.E. Smith Family Center have the comprehensive, coordinated care they need for a strong future.
